The title compound (1) has been prepared from gibberellic acid; its addition to a fermentation of G. fujikuroi led to the accumulation of ent-kaurene, and hence suggested that it inhibited the biosynthetic oxidation of kaurene.Compound (1) also retards the conversion of gibberellin A12 aldehyde (25) into gibberellins A12 (26) and A43 (21) by a plant enzyme system.
