exo-7-Ethyl-5-methyl-6,8-dioxabicyclo<3,2,1>oct-3-ene (1) has been isolated from urine of the male mouse of the species Mus musculus.It is one of a small number volatile constituents that signal the adult male state and induce intermale agression.It may also be regarded as a potential multipurpose male mouse pheromone.Its structure elucidation and synthesis are described.
