9(10H)-Acridinone anion reacts with ethynyl bromides to give 10-ethynyl-9(10H)-acridinones which are converted by phenyllithium to the corresponding 9-phenyl-9-hydroxy-10-ethynylacridinanes.The latter are converted by acid into 10-ethynylacridinium salts. 13C NMR spectra are obtained, assigned, and discussed for all compounds mentioned.
