A new optically active δ-aminoalcohol has been synthesized diastereoselectively in one step from (-)-menthone and N,N-dimethylaminopropyl lithium. The aminoalcohol catalyzed the addition of diethylzinc and dimethylzinc to aldehydes in high yields and enantioselectivities of up to 89%.
