The cluster compounds (M = Ru or Os, M'= Co) and (M = Ru or Os; M'= Fe, Ru, or Os) have been prepared in good yield by the reaction of an appropriate tetracarbonylmetalate with the bis(acetonitrile) complexes, M = Ru or Os).The anionic clusters have been protonated, where possible, to give the corresponding neutral hydride clusters.In addition to known tetranuclear cluster synthesised by this method, we report the new cluster compounds , , and .
