In summary, we have reported the syntheses, crystal struc-
tures, and magnetic properties of cubane-type hydroxyl-
bridged tetranuclear nickel(II) and copper(II) complexes
with the tridentate Schiff bases 4-nitro-2-[(2-hydroxyeth-
ylimino)methyl]phenol and 5-methoxy-2-[(2-hydroxyeth-
ylimino)methyl]phenol. The ferromagnetic interactions in
complex 1 and antiferromagnetic interactions in complex 2
are mediated by the hydroxyl bridges. These complexes may
serve as potential magnetic materials.
