The direct synthesis of organic derivatives of silicon using nonhalogenated organic compounds

Some trialkoxysilanes, (RO)₃SiH (R = CH₃, C₂H₅, n-C₃H₇, i-C₄H₉), and tetraalkoxysilanes were prepared directly by the reactions of the appropriate primary alcohol with a silicon-copper contact mixture. Similar attempts with secondary and tertiary alcohols, ethers, and secondary amines gave no silicon-containing products.
