Metabolism

Both cis and trans isomers of 5-chlorocyclophosphamide and 5-fluorocyclophosphamide are metabolically activated in the body. Metabolism primarily occurs in the liver through the action of the hepatic cytochrome P450 enzymes. The metabolites formed from these compounds are alkylating agents that can covalently bind to DNA, interfering with DNA replication and ultimately leading to cell death.
