    From the resulting alcohols, aldehydes, such as 1 (Figure 1), can readily be obtained from oxidation by Dess–Martin periodane (DMP) or Swern conditions. These are potentially important building blocks for artificial enzymes or molecular machines since C–C bond formation at the oxidized position can be achieved.
