Siloxane
Siloxanes are a class of chemical compounds characterized by alternating silicon-oxygen (Si-O) bonds, with organic groups (such as methyl, ethyl, phenyl, or vinyl) attached to the silicon atoms. These compounds form the backbone of silicones, which are widely known for their unique properties, including thermal stability, water repellency, low surface tension, and biocompatibility. Siloxanes can range from low-molecular-weight fluids to high-molecular-weight polymers, depending on the number of repeating units (siloxane groups) in the molecule. Silicones find diverse applications in industry, electronics, construction, cosmetics, and healthcare due to their excellent lubricating, insulating, and protective properties. They are also used in biomedical devices, personal care products (such as shampoos and antiperspirants), and as coatings for textiles and industrial surfaces.
