The synthesis of and infrared spectral studies on rhodium(I) thiocyanato compounds of the types RhL2(CO)(NCS), RhL3(NCS), Rh2L4(CNS)2, and (R4N)[Rh(CO)2(NCS)2], where L is a phosphine, an arsine, a stibine, or a phosphite, are reported. In all of these complexes terminal thiocyanate is bonded through the nitrogen atom, both in the solid state and in solution. The arylarsine and phosphite thiocyanato derivatives dissociate in part in solution with the resultant formation of dinuclear, SCN-bridged complexes of the type Rh2(AsR3)2(CO)2(CNS)2 and Rh2[P(OR)3]4(CNS)2, respectively. The latter was isolated with triphenyl phosphite.
