The reaction of α-bromo α-cyanoesters, α-bromo α-cyanonitriles and α-bromo α-cyanoimides with silver nitrate-triphenylphosphine or trimethylphosphite complexes brings about replacement of positive halogen by a nitro group in mild conditions.
