Variations in the magnitude of the ¹J_SeP coupling constants for a range of phosphorus(V) selenides allow the efficiency of different spacer groups at insulating the phosphorus centre in triarylphosphines from highly electron-withdrawing perfluoroalkyl groups to be established.
