The alcoholic group of the hydroxymethyl derivatives of thujan-3-one, pinan-3-one, caran-3-one, p-menthan-2-one and p-menthan-3-one is oxidized to the carboxy group or reduced to the methyl group.Some intermediates are also produced.Differences in the reactivities of bicyclic and monocyclic monoterpenones are discussed.
