Hydroformylation of olefins in the presence of dicobalt octacarbonyl: some considerations

New data for the deuteroformylation of propene and hydroformylation of deuteropropenes are presented, together with revised data for the hydroformylation of but-1-ene-4-d₃.The mechanism of formation of isomeric aldehydes is discussed, and it is concluded that several reaction paths may be followed depending on the reaction conditions and the structure of the substrate.
