The unstable radicals SCl and SBr have been prepared by photolysis of S2Cl2, SCl2 and S2Br2 respectively, and by passing the stable molecules through a microwave discharge in the presence of argon in large excess.The radicals are trapped in an argon matrix at 9 K.The i.r.- spectra and the results of force constant calculation are reported.
