Symmetrically-substituted epoxides react with fluorenyllithium to give the corresponding alcohols in high yields.These were used to prepare ansa-bridged mono(η5-fluorenyl)-zirconium complexes of the general formula <(C13H8-CHR-CHR-O>ZrCl2(thf)2 (CHR-CHR=cyclohexyl, cyclopentyl, 1,2-diphenylethyl).With Al(CH3)3 as cocatalyst these complexes catalyze the polymerization of ethene.
