S-aryl N,N-dialkylamidothiosulfates, a novel class of sulfenic acid derivatives

A method for the synthesis of S-aryl N,N-dialkylamidothiosulfates, a novel class of sulfenic acid derivatives, was proposed. The method is based on the reaction of arenesulfenyl chlorides with N,N-dialkylamidosulfinic acids or with secondary amines in liquid SO₂ in the presence of triethylamine. In the presence of halogen-containing Lewis acids, 5-aryl N,N-dialkylamidothiosulfates add to the C=C bonds to give aryl β-haloalkyl sulfides.
