First, the solution of compound 17 in EtOH (CAS 64-17-5) was benzylated with benzyl chloride in the presence of EtONa (CAS 141-52-6) to yield a mixture of compounds 30 (mp 79–81 °C, major product) and 31 (mp 112–113 °C, minor product).
