trifluorinated hexopyranose, see reference 8. We suspect that an axial
fluorine at C–4 shield the H–2 proton and reduced formation of the
elimination by-product (galactopyranose derivative). In the case of
allopyranose, the fluorine atom at C–4 is equatorial and the H–2 proton
is thus more available.
