    For complexes 3a-c the pyrenyl-based absorption appears as an intense band near 410 nm without resolved vibrational structure (see Table 3 and  Figure 8). We note a substantial red shift of this band with respect to pyrene (CAS129-00-0), 1-phenylpyrene derivatives, and 1-ethy-nylpyrene, whose optical absorptions peak at 330-350 nm.
