Phenol derivatives

Phenol derivatives are organic compounds derived from phenol, which is a benzene ring with a hydroxyl group (-OH) attached. These derivatives include a wide range of substances where the hydroxyl group of phenol is substituted with other functional groups, such as alkyl groups (methyl, ethyl), halogens (chlorine, bromine), nitro groups (-NO2), or sulfonate groups (-SO3H). Phenol derivatives are important in various industries and applications, including pharmaceuticals, plastics, dyes, and disinfectants. For example, chlorophenols are derivatives where chlorine atoms replace hydrogen atoms on the phenol ring, used as pesticides and wood preservatives. Phenolic resins, derived from phenol and formaldehyde, are widely employed in adhesives and coatings due to their excellent thermal and chemical resistance.
