Organosodium

Organosodium compounds are organometallic compounds that contain a direct bond between sodium and a carbon atom from an organic group. These compounds are highly reactive and are primarily used as strong bases and nucleophiles in organic synthesis. Organosodium compounds are essential in various chemical reactions, including deprotonation, metalation, and the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. Due to their extreme reactivity with moisture and air, organosodium compounds must be handled under strictly anhydrous conditions using inert atmospheres. Common examples include sodium cyclopentadienide (NaC5H5) and sodium hydride (NaH), which are extensively employed in laboratory and industrial settings for their role in synthetic organic chemistry processes.
