The first base-stabilized phosphino- and arsinoalane monomers, H₂AlEMes₂·NMe₃(Mes = mesityl; 1, E = P; 2, E = As) have been prepared. Thermolysis at 95°C converts 1 to the trimer [H₂AlPMes₂]₃ (3); further heating at 125°C results in the formation of Mes₂PH and aluminum metal.
