Organic iron

Organic iron refers to iron that is part of an organic compound, typically found in biological systems. Unlike inorganic iron, which is present in mineral forms, organic iron is bound to carbon-containing molecules such as heme (in hemoglobin and myoglobin) or in iron-sulfur clusters within enzymes. This form of iron is more readily absorbed and utilized by living organisms, playing crucial roles in oxygen transport, electron transfer, and various enzymatic reactions essential for cellular metabolism and energy production. Organic iron is often found in animal-based foods and certain plant sources, contributing significantly to dietary iron intake.
